For a few years now, I have watched in horror as my country implodes through a self-inflicted massacre. Doomscrolling on Twitter hasn’t helped. If you’re really interested in watching my brain unspool in real time, it’s all still there. Twitter is a way that I process things.
As a way to stave off the negativity, positive-thinking clichés cascade through my head. I use them as mental pitons to stabilize my thoughts as they spiral downward. Stabilize they must, because at every intersection of thought, you must will yourself to realize that as long as you are cognizant of a choice existing, you have the power to choose the highest iteration.
If you can still discern the difference between despair and hope, choose hope. Every time. You will get stronger each time you choose. Hope builds a foundation of change.
Be brave.
Reach out to other positive realists in your orbit. Focus on solutions. Put your energy toward building the world you want to see, and it will eventually arise from the ashes of what you reject.
Breathe. Drink water. Take a walk. Hug someone if you can.
You can fashion your future into something better.
Your now isn’t your always.
