Clarity about money attracts wealth.
One of the central skills essential to having an abundant life is financial literacy.
There are many practical reasons for this: investing, budgeting and managing a household or business rely on understanding how to allocate money for different costs. However, wealth is at once beyond and related to everyday expenses. I include this post because it’s common for many creators (artists, writers, consultants or other expertise-based types) to under-represent their skills and to ask too little for their skills and expertise.
I’m going to let you in on a secret: money itself is worthless.
Money is a piece of paper that we, as a society, have collectively agreed upon to assign value to this method of exchange. It’s a construct, and why is this? One, because shells and beads won’t fit into our wallets as easily and two, because it’s linear and more efficient to just get that whole value construct thing out of the way upfront.
Only after we have agreed upon a standard of measure can we go about using it.
That said, when talking with someone who still operates from a scarcity mentality, I never begin by telling them that “money is a construct.” He or she will think I’m an idiot. The utilities company will not accept a note with your monthly invoice, saying, “Enclosed please find my construct for this month’s electricity charges. Thanks!”
That said, building a working knowledge of how this construct applies toward every day expenses also allows us the opportunity to show how wealth is built incrementally through establishing stronger every day financial habits.
The secret to these habits reveal how each individual aligns personal values with the way their money is spent. If your goal is to attract and leverage wealth, begin with a baseline assessment using these indicators:
WHERE you are financially, right now.
Assign no judgement to your status, just collect information.
HOW you got there.
Again, judgement is immaterial, and is actually harmful to growth.
WHERE do you want to go financially?
Build your savings? Retirement? Investments? Travel?
HOW you are going to get there?
Once you’ve determine the answers to these questions, sketch out a plan to achieve your goals. Clarity is essential to this process, and it is through clarity that wealth flows. Here is how you can answer that last “HOW” question:
• Will you need to add new skills (knowledge of the markets? upgrade a professional skill to increase your earning capacity?)
• Will you monetize an interest to create a new revenue stream?
• Will you begin a savings strategy?
• All of the above?
In addition, this is key: essential to attracting wealth is to believe that you are worthy of receiving it. Mentally and spiritually create space in your life for abundance to flow to you, and it will.
