One day, I was taking a pizza out of the oven and caught my forearm on the inside of the door. I flinched and drew my arm away from the hot metal, but the damage was already done: within minutes, an angry weal had formed where my arm had touched the oven.
I immediately took steps to clean and treat the wound and went on with my day.
A few days later while I was brushing my teeth, I noticed that my arm was healing. The upshot being that instead of fretting over the burn, the experience and the pain (the past, and something I could not change), I noticed that my body had the capacity to regenerate (the future and possibilities).
How cool is that? (pretty cool).
What are you focusing on in your life? The injury or the healing? You’ll note that I’m not saying to not acknowledge your wounds. Tend them—immediately (or as soon as you have the tools to do so). But then grow from them.
Everyone has scars.
What matters is what we do with the skin we grow into.
