This photo is from a trip I took to Portland in August 2019. The hand is that of my youngest daughter. She and I were out on a walk, exploring her neighborhood.
I thought that today, we could use it as a writing prompt. One of my tricks for breaking through writer’s block is to imagine different worlds within the various pictures I see streaming by in my Instagram timeline. It helps me to shift gears when I’m stuck in a rut, or experiencing a brain roadblock.
If you feel like it, I’d like to invite you to write a few words in the comments, based on the image I’ve shared above.
Here’s mine:
“The quest had led Elizabeth across the country. She had been traveling for what seemed like years, but in reality, she had left her village only six moon cycles before this moment. The words of the Mountain Sage echoed in her head as she regarded the door knobs embedded in the concrete wall:
Obsidian or rust:
Which should you trust?
A turn to the right
Brings endless night.
The portal to the next world would open to her, but only if she was able to choose wisely. Gathering her courage, her hand clasped the plainest and most unadorned knob.”
Thanks for joining me; I look forward to reading your comments!
